Location: The port of Antwerp is situated 80km from the North Sea on the River Scheldt. General overview: Antwerp is a municipal port with cargo handling by private firms. An important multi-product industrial port covering an area of over 13,000ha with over 530ha of covered storage areas. The older part of the port has been made accessible for Panamax vessels. Cargoes include: Petroleum products, ores, coal, steel products, crude oils, cereals, fertilizers, paper and cellulose, sugar and fruit. The port has seen rapid expansion with new, non-tidal, terminals being built to the N and W on the Schelde River. Facilities at the port: 1.The Port of Antwerp can handle a range of breakbulk cargoes, including forest products, steel, food, ro/ro, and project cargo. 2.Services like repackaging, labeling, quality control, storage and logistics, towage, pilotage, mooring and unmooring are available. 3.Accessible to capezise ships (too large to transit the Panama Canal or Suez Canal). 4.Antwerp’s docks are connected to the hinterland by rail, road, river, and canal waterways. 5.The Port of Antwerp has three floating cranes (one with a capacity of 800t and two with a capacity of 45t) and over 30 dock-mounted cranes. 6.Terminals 26, max. water depth of 13.5 meters (the Europa Terminal). 7. 160 km of quayside available for loading and unloading activities. 8.The largest warehouse capacity in Europe, with more than 5.3 million square meters of warehousing area, stores all types of products. IMO Class 1 (PSA Noordzee terminal): there will need to be guided transport for the container for the full route inland until vessel sails in case of loading. This will normally be handled by a third party forwards/shippers. Need to apply for permission to the federal government as well. Fresh water supply in Antwerp Most terminals in Antwerp are equipped with fresh water shore connections. Cost estimation for deliveries of fresh water via shore side: • € 4,90 - Price per ton, if ordered quantity is below 150 tons • € 3,90 - Price per ton, if ordered quantity exceeds 150 tons • € 150,00 - Price for connection, if vessels GRT is below 5000 tons • € 300,00 - Price for connection, if vessels GRT exceeds 5000 tons If a second connection for an extra standpipe is mounted simultaneously with the first standpipe, a discount of 50% is given on the charges of connection of the second standpipe. For deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays and on working days out of the working hours (from 0700 hrs to 2100 hrs) the charges are raised by 100%.
