General overview: The Port of Aqaba, which is the only access to the sea for Jordan, is located on a 40km strip of coastline between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Load line zone: Tropical. The Port of Aqaba is the only port in Jordan, and is owned by Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and has 12 terminals operated by five operators: the Aqaba Company for port management and operation; Aqaba Container Terminal; Industrial Port Company; phosphate Company; National Electricity power Company, and the pilotage operated by Aqaba Port Marine Services Company. Discharging rate for the General Cargo Terminal: about 400 MT per gang per hook per shift of 8-hours Stevedoring Working Shift : 3 shifts 0700-1500 hrs LT 1500-2300 hrs LT 2300-0700 hrs LT There are two mobile cranes each SWL 90 MT subject to stowage plan and cargo to be discharged, hire of the mobile crane(s) must be agreed with port prior to vessel arrival. Aqaba New Port (general cargo, dry bulk, grain, ro-ro, live cattle): terminal draft - 13-15 m, terminal length - 2000 m, annual handling capacity - 36 mln tons per year. Aqaba Container Terminal: annual handling capacity - 1.3 mln TEUs, total berth length: 1000 m, terminal draft: 14.5-20 m LNG Terminal: terminal draft - 18-20 m, terminal length - 281 m, annual handling capacity - 715 mmscf/day LPG Terminal: terminal draft - 11 m, terminal length - 185 m, annual handling capacity - 4 mln tons Oil Terminal: terminal draft - 24 m, terminal length - 140 m, annual handling capacity - 20 mln tons General Cargo Terminal - there are 9 berths with max draft as follows: Berth 1 : 12.00 meters Berth 2 : 12.00 meters Berth 3 : 13.50 meters Berth 4 : 13.50 meters Berth 5 : 13.50 meters Berth 9 : 13.50 meters (bulk grains vessels only) Berths 6,7,8: newly operational with draft 13.50 meters and due to restricted space for port machineries to maneuver at the berth, the port may not service vessel with more than two gangs at berths 6/7/8, IMO Class 1 (can be handled at Aqaba Container Terminal “ACT”) Prior approval to be obtained by agent from various official divisions in Aqaba including security departments. Vessels carrying other IMO containers on board destined for other ports are allowed to call Aqaba port for loading/discharging operations for Aqaba cargo. A manifest and stowage plan copies are required for other IMO cargo on board to send copies to all concerned in the port. Notify about 10 days in advance for each IMO shipment to Aqaba prior to vessel arrival so that the necessary approvals for berthing and discharging can be obtained. Transhipment / shifting of IMO cargo/containers is strictly prohibited at Aqaba port. At Navy berth, IMO cargo handling is exclusively subject to Jordan Armed Forces service and subject to contractual terms and conditions with Jordan Armed Forces only.
