Location: Latakia (locally known as Al Ladhiqiyah) is located approx 40km S of the Turkish border and is Syria's principal port.
General overview: The principal port of Syria, Latakia has a large commercial harbour with modern facilities to handle most types of vessels including container, Ro-Ro, general cargo, bulk carriers and tankers.
Principal exports include crude oil, carobs, tobacco, vegetable products, hides and skins, cotton and wool. Imports include manufactured goods, chemical products, vehicles, machinery, foodstuffs and timber.
