General Description
Location: Ravenna is situated on the Adriatic Sea.
General overview: The port of Ravenna has gradually developed 14km along the Corsini Port Canal, continuously expanding in its industrial and commercial importance. Two breakwaters, each 2.5km long, shelter the canal entrance through which most of the berths are reached. Other tanker berths exist to seaward, S of the entrance, the furthest being a SBM lying approx 9.5nm offshore. The port has 15 terminals and 9 coastal depots.
The Port of Ravenna Container Terminal covers about 300 thousand square meters and has a berth of 680 meters dedicated to lift-on/lift-off and roll-on/roll-off vessels. The terminal offers over 100 reefer plugs and has capacity to handle more than one thousand TEUs of hazardous cargo.
The Setramar terminal contains a bonded warehouse for both foreign and domestic goods. It has handling capacity for more than 2.5 million tons of dry goods and 100 thousand containers each year. Covering an area of 227 thousand square meters, it includes a 38 thousand square meter storeroom. The pier is over 600 meters long and has ample equipment to handle both roll-on/roll-off cargoes and containers. The terminal specializes in handling grains, flour, minerals, timber, fertilizers, iron and steel products, containers, and general cargo.
The Lloyd terminal has a private bonded warehouse with capacity for 1.5 million tons per year. It covers an area of 107 thousand square meters and includes a 38 thousand square meters storeroom. The pier is 320 meters long. The terminal specializes in bulk cargoes like fertilizers, coal, grains, flour, minerals, and inert goods.
The Cereal Docks cover 253 thousand square meters and have a quay of 810 meters with alongside depth of 10.5 meters and 1.5 meters of rail siding. Handling cereals, flour, inert materials, bags, and fertilizers, the terminal is equipped to grind, mix, and bag raw materials including animal feed. The Cereal Docks has capacity for 400 thousand tons of cargo in 118 vertical silos, 71 warehouses, and two open storage areas.
The Eurodocks terminal handles two million tons of goods a year, mainly materials for the production of ceramics and glass. Other cargoes include flour, cereals, iron and steel products, and fertilizers.
The NA.DEP. terminal covers 100 thousand square meters, half open yards and half covered warehouses. It has capacity for storing 300 cubic meters of solid and breakbulk cargoes. Its 240-meter-long pier has a roll-on/roll-off berth with capacity to handle a million tons of dry goods each year. NADEP West specializes in handling raw materials and bulk goods in pallets and bags as well as wood, timber, and iron and steel pipes.
The IFA terminal can store solid and breakbulk cargoes of up to 650 thousand tons in covered areas and up to 450 thousand tons in open areas. Its 274 meters of quays have alongside depth of 20.5 meters that are connected to the yards and warehouses by conveyors. The IFA terminal has capacity for two million tons of dry goods per year.
The Magazzini Generali of the Port of Ravenna is a division of La Petrolifera Italo Rumena. It operates a bonded warehouse covering 66 thousand square meters and specializes in handling, bagging, and storing rice, cereals, flour, salt, sugar, plastic, and ferrous metals in 15 thousand square meters of warehouse and 10 thousand square meters of open space.
The Port of Ravenna’s Soco terminal offers a pier of 245 meters and the capacity to handle a million tons of bulk cargoes (fertilizers, inerts, minerals, and general cargo) per year. The terminal covers 145 thousand square meters, including a 68 thousand square meter storeroom.
Italterminal covers 70 thousand square meters, including 22 thousand square meters of covered warehouses. With a 300-meter berth, the terminal can handle and store any dry bulk cargo (including dangerous goods) and can blend or package as much as three thousand tons of fertilizers per day.
The Docks E.C.S. terminal is a private customs store near the public quays. Operating in an area of about 80 thousand square meters, including 40 thousand square meters of covered space, the terminal handles bulk cargoes and has drying, mixing, milling, and packaging machinery.
The Ferry Terminal can accommodate ships of 261 meters and 9.6 meters draft. The Port of Ravenna offers two berths for cruise vessels of up to 260 meters at its 440-meter-long quay. The Darsena di Citta, located about 100 meters from the railway station, serves vessels to 160 meters long with 5.2 meters draft
