General Description
Location: Chennai (previously Madras) is situated on the Coromandel coast in SE India.
General overview: Chennai has a main harbour enclosed by a breakwater with an entrance protected by an off-lying groyne. The Port of Chennai consists of three docks(24 berths and draft from 8.5m to 16.5m) and is considered a Hub for Containers, Cars and Project Cargo in the East Coast.

- Exports include iron ore, granite, mineral oils and other POL, textiles excluding cotton yarn, onions, tobacco, leather goods, bone and bone meal, sugar, food grains, quartz, barytes, feldspar and general cargo.
Traffic figures: Approx. 1,900 vessels, 61,100,000t of cargo including 1,129,700TEU handled annually.
