General Description
Location: Trollhatte Canal connects the Gota River to Lake Vanern between Gothenburg and Vanersborg. General overview: The canal is 82km long and has 6 locks, each has a length of 90m, width 13.4m, depth (min) 5.6m. The canal is kept open for traffic throughout the year, with certain limitations on tonnage during ice periods. The flow of water through the canal is affected by the load on certain power plants, which may reach a max of 2.5kts. Max size: Vessels: LOA 87m, beam 12.6m, draught 4.7m, masthead height above waterline 27m. After special application the following max dimensions may be admitted through the locks: LOA 88m, beam 13.4m, draught 5.4m. Barges: Length 35m, beam 10.0m, draught 3.0m, length of tow measured from stern of towing vessel to end of barge train 60m.
