General Description
Location: Shuwaikh port lies on the S shore of Kuwait Bay.
General overview: Shuwaikh port is approached by a channel running between Failakha Island and the mainland. It is the commercial port of Kuwait, with 21 berths, handling the bulk of merchant shipping trade and all types of vessels including liner, tramp, container, Ro-Ro, barges, fishing trawlers and small passenger vessels.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,400 vessels, 2,525,000t of cargo including 91,800TEU are handled annually.
Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Max draught 7.5m any time, 9.5m HW.
IMO Class 1 (can be handled at B# 11 & 14):
No transshipment facility in Kuwait. Cargoes which are In transit are not declared to port. Class 1 cargo (arms and ammunition) can only be imported by the government agency.
Sports equipment’s under class 1 can be imported by private agency, but with approval from the government agencies.
Class 1 cargo can be discharged on direct delivery basis, under the escort of Ministry of Interior. No storage is permitted inside the port.
