General Description
Location: Port Harcourt is situated 66km up the River Bonny estuary, part of the River Niger delta in E Nigeria. General overview: The river has been dredged to allow ease of transit, the tide at times reaching rates of 3kts. The port is an important transhipment port for the Niger, Chad and inland Nigeria and is a railway terminus and coal export harbour. Traffic figures: Approx 815,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Cement Terminal: LOA 190m, with 8.5m draught on high tide, subject to approval of the Chief Port Harbour Master.
