General Description
Location: Bandar Abbas is situated in southern Iran at the Strait of Hormuz (Gateway of the Persian Gulf). General overview: The port is divided into 2 areas, the new main port of Bandar Shahid Rajaie, now known as Shahid Rajaee Port Special Economic Zone, and the old port of Bandar Shahid Bahonar. Bandar Shahid Rajaee is located 20km W of Bandar Abbas and Bandar Shahid Bahonar is 8.0km W of Bandar Abbas. The new port has breakwaters with a total length of 6,818m. The port, as well as handling wet and dry commercial cargoes, is a naval base. The principal exports are chrome ore, red oxide, marble blocks, cotton carpets, dried fruits, dates, almonds and pistachio nuts; the main imports are cotton piece goods, sugar, tea, matches, cereals, fertilisers, construction machinery and materials, and woollen goods. Traffic figures: Approx 37,000,000t and 1,000,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Tanker Berth: Pulad Jetty: LOA 260, draught 12.5m, 110,000DWT.
