Location: Alang is situated on the W coast of India in the Gulf of Cambay, approx. 50km from Bhavnagar.
General overview: The Port of Alang is solely concerned with ship breaking. It is known as the largest demolition yard in the world. Ships are beached for breaking twice a month at HW of over 10m.
It is considered to be one of the world's main ship breaking areas.
Traffic figures: Approx. 300 vessels are scrapped annually totaling 2,600,000t.
Max size: There is no restriction on length, beam or draught of a vessel calling at Alang for demolition.
