General Description
Location: The Port of Dhamra is situated between Haldia and Paradeep, at the Bay of Bengal.
General overview: The Port of Dhamra, a joint venture between Larsen & Toubro and Tata Steel will have 13 berths with a total handling capacity of 80,000,000t. The port is well protected from waves and currents by barrier islands, which improve conditions for port operations. Import operations are now underway, iron ore export operations are expected to start beginning 2012. Dharma can accommodate vessels bigger than capes. The port mainly handles bulk cargoes such as coal and iron ore.
Load line zone: Summer.
The port remains open during monsoon season.
Max size: Maximum LOA 290m // 18m draught // beam 47m // 180,000DWT.
