General Description
Location: The Port of Visakhapatnam is situated on the E coast of India almost midway between Kolkata and Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal.
General overview: The Port of Visakhapatnam is one of the leading ports of India. It is under the administrative control of the Board of Trustees and is governed by the Ministry of Surface Transport of the Government of India.
The port consists of 2 harbours:
- The Outer Harbour with 8 berths. (LOA 390m // Beam 50m // Draft 17m)
- The Inner Harbour with 18 berths. (LOA 240m // Beam 40m // Draft 14.5m)
- There is also a SPM which allows berthing only during daytime.
The Outer Harbour has berths for larger vessels handling bulk liquid and minerals, LPG, containers and general cargo.
The Inner Harbour has a turning basin, shipyard and has berths servicing the fertilizer plant and oil refinery and berths for bulk cargoes including coal, iron ore and molasses.

- Exports are iron ore, other ores, alumina, iron and steel, pig iron, petroleum products, thermal coal, cement clinker, general cargo and container cargo.
- Imports are Crude and LPG / POL products, coking coal, limestone, fertilizers, fertilizer raw materials, magnesite, liquid ammonia, phosphoric acid, caustic soda, edible oils, general cargo and container cargo.
Traffic figures: Approx. 2,400 vessels, 65,500,000t cargo, 55,790TEUs and 16,780 passengers handled annually.
