General Description
Location: Kakinada lies on the E coast almost midway between Kolkata and Chennai, approx 3nm NE of the entrance to Kakinada River.
General overview: The port comprises Kakinada Anchorage Port, Kakinada Deep Water Port, Fishing Harbour and Ship Breaking unit. Kakinada Anchorage Port is under control of State Government and Deep Water Port operated by Kakinada Seaports Ltd.
The all weather anchorage area of almost 25km² available for working cargo to barges up to 60t capacity. Ten vessels can be handled simultaneously. Transfer of cargo between the anchorage and the wharves in the town of Kakinada, 7nm SW, is by lighter through a canal. STS operations for crude oil lightering from VLCC's to Suezmax / Aframax vessels available off port in position 16°57.0'N 082°27.0'E.
