General Description
Location: Shuaiba is situated immediately S of Mina Al Ahmadi oil terminal.
General overview: Shuaiba port opened to serve the Shuaiba industrial area, the largest designated areas include petrochemical oil refining, gas liquefaction, cement manufacture and fish processing.
There are 20 berths with a total length of 4,068m. Shuaiba is the second major port of Kuwait for handling commercial traffic. Priority is given to vessels for loading exports and having imports of raw materials, equipment and machinery for Shuaiba industrial area. Vessels with either imports or exports of commercial goods not pertaining to the area can only berth and operate at Shuaiba after obtaining prior approval from the Kuwait Port Authority at Shuwaikh Port. The port offers facilities for general cargo, containers, Ro-Ro, tankers and barges.
The port comprises 4 main areas, namely dry cargo berths, small craft harbour, barge harbour and oil pier.
Shuaiba port is a direct delivery port and berth allocation is basis first come first basis and document readiness by the cargo receiver.
Usually there is no congestion at Shuaiba port for general cargo vessels. May expect 1-2 days berthing delay if the berths are occupied.
General Cargo berths - Shuaiba – B#15/18.
In Shuaiba Port B#15/16/17 are container terminal berths and priority is always for container vessels. B#18 is a dedicated berth for Military cargo vessels.
B#15/18 is allocated for GC vessels when there is no container / Military vessels.
In case if any container/Military vessels arrive, GC vessels will be shifted to anchorage. Vessel shifting costs will be on principal account.
Berth Length 200 M However, LOA above 200 M acceptable, but restricted to few berths only subject to space available at adjacent berth and additional berthing dues apply and resulting more berthing delays.
No beam or air draft restrictions for general cargo vessels.
No shore crane available at Shuaiba Port. Need to hire locally if cargo to be discharged using shore crane.
Shuaiba port is working 24/7.
No storage facility in Shuaiba port. Shuaiba port is a direct delivery port and berth allocation is basis first come first basis and custom document readiness by the cargo receiver.
Discharging rate subject to stowage/number of holds/gangs used/lashing etc. 1 Gang per hook
Traffic figures: Approx 3,500,000t of cargo including approx 110,000TEU are handled annually.

Oil Pier: Max draught 15.8m, 100,000DWT.
IMO Class 1 (can be handled at B# 15 & 18):
No transshipment facility in Kuwait. Cargoes which are In transit are not declared to port. Class 1 cargo (arms and ammunition) can only be imported by the government agency.
Sports equipment’s under class 1 can be imported by private agency, but with approval from the government agencies.
Class 1 cargo can be discharged on direct delivery basis, under the escort of Ministry of Interior. No storage is permitted inside the port.
