General Description
Location: Port Blair is located in the Andaman Islands, on the E coast of South Andaman, approx 600km W of the coast of Myanmar.
General overview: The harbour is safe and is a good port of refuge with depths ranging from 5.5-45m. It is sheltered from NE and SW monsoons. The harbour is entered from N or S of Ross Island. The northern route is used more often as water in the southern entrance is shallower and care is needed to avoid outer Sesostris Shoal.
Port Blair can handle vessels both at the Anchorage and the Oil Terminal:
- Anchorage (LOA 500m // Draught 13.7m)
- Oil Terminal (Draught 9.1m)
Traffic figures: Approx. 1,950 vessels visit the port annually.
