General Description
Location: The Port of Abu Qir is situated at the north-eastern side of Alexandria.
General overview: The Port of Abu Qir is a growing commercial port that accommodates 5 quays with a total length of 1500m. One of its features is a permanently moored bulk carrier converted to a grain silo for grain import and storage.
Additionally, it has facilities for the handling of phosphate, fertilizer, metals, and petroleum activities offshore. The port is also used for the export of citrus and food products.
The port, considered also military, is controlled by the Egyptian Navy and has 11 jetties, with some not currently being used for commercial operations.
- Jetties no. 1 & 3 are only being used for trials.
- Jetty no. 11 is used for offshore supply vessels.
- Jetties no. 4 & 7 are not used for commercial operations for the time being.
A new container terminal is being developed by Hutchison Ports.
