General Description
Location: The port of Castellon is situated towards the northern end of the Gulf of Valencia on Spain's Mediterranean coast, 62 km. NE of Valencia.
General overview: Multipurpose port divided into three main commercial areas: Darsena Sur (South Basin), Darsena Norte (North Basin) and Darsena Interior (Inner Basin). Additionally, there is a dedicated fishing port. Commercial cargoes including containers, dry and liquid bulk, general cargo and Ro-Ro traffic are handled at the Inner Basin, North Basin and more recently the South Basin. A separate harbour is used by fishing vessels. An offshore sea island oil terminal and a CBM berth are situated approx 2nm SE of the entrance to the port. There is also a small shipyard is located in Burriana; approx. 7 n.m. SW of the port. The shipyard handles vessels up to 3,500 d.w.t. and is equipped with two slipways.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,300 vessels, 12,500,000t of cargo and 104,00TEU handled annually.
