General Description
The Port of Varna is situated on the S side of the city and along the N shore of the waterway connecting the Black Sea with Verna Lake and Beloslav Lake to the W.
The Port is state owned (Port of Varna EAD) comprises the port facilities:
- Varna East (within the town of Varna)
- Varna West (see separate entry) - A modern port facility at the N Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, 30 km west of Varna.
There are 2 anchorages at Varna roadstead:
- Summer (May to Oct)
- Winter (Oct to May)
Port of Varna East: Located on the S side of Varna, specialises in the handling of mainly grains.
Traffic figures: Approx. 2,240 vessels, 7,723,000t of cargo and 155,330TEU handled annually.
The Port of Varna (East) consists of 14 berths, including 1 passenger berth.
The port invests in improving the port infrastructure and facilities to renovate the handling technology for grain and cereals, so that Varna East can preserve its image of Bulgaria’s grain hub.
The port also offers a warehousing services with a storage capacity of 35,340.39m2
