General Description
Location: Izmit is located at the head of the Gulf of Izmit, at SE end of the Marmara Sea. General overview: Izmit (Kocaeli) is the main city in the Gulf of Izmit, however it does not have a port. Izmit is the general name given for the industrial ports and terminals, mainly on the N coast within the Gulf of Izmit. The area is heavily populated with industrial plants, shipyards, factories, storage tanks for chemical industries, paper mills and oil refineries. There are also container berths which are used for transhipment and additional capacity for Istanbul. The ports and terminals shown as subports below can be found under the main port as follows: MAIN SUBPORT PORT Darica Diliskelesi Poliport, Colakoglu, Sedef, Alemdar Diliskelesi, Altintel, Solventas, Kizilkaya.
