General Description
Location: Port of Izmir is situated on the W coast in the Aegean Sea. Location: Latitude: 38° 25' 00" N, Longitude: 27° 04' 30" E
General overview: A naturally-sheltered port handling a range of cargoes including dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, Ro-Ro and containers. There is also a passenger terminal for cruise vessels and ferries. Other facilities nearby include a military port, small craft harbour and several terminals for local passenger ferries.
The port is divided into outer harbour, middle harbour anchorages and the inner harbour. The inner harbour has three port areas: the Old Port which is sheltered by a breakwater, the new port Alsancak and Turan Oil depot port area, which is to the N of Alsancak.
Load line zone: Summer.
PILOTAGE: Ships entering and leaving the port must take a pilot.
TOWAGE: There is no obligation to buy towing boats for ships smaller than 2000 GT.

HANDLING EQUIPMENT
Container handling:
- 5 Gantry Cranes of 40 tons
- 3 MHC Cranes of 100 tons
- 14 rubber-tyred transtainers of 35-40 tons
- 15 full container mobile cranes of 25-42 tons
- 14 empty container mobile cranes of 8-10 tons
In addition, there are 6 mobile cranes of 10-25 tons, 12 short mast forklifts (Diesel+Electric), 1 mini-loader, 39 tow trucks and 59 trailers. There are reefer piers suitable for reefer containers at the terminal.
BULK CARGO FACILITY: There are two concrete silos with a total capacity of 70,000 tons belonging to
Turkish Grain Board.
