Location: Kuala Tanjung is situated on the NE coast of Sumatera. General overview: The port consists of two piers, extending in a NE direction for approx 2.3km, which serves the Asahan Aluminium project and the MNA refinery plant in the new town of Kota Baru. It is a commercial port open to foreign trade and the main cargoes handled are aluminium and vegetable oil. In addition, it serves the inter Island routes and handles some passenger vessels.
