The shipping platform

Location: The commercial harbour of Marina di Carrara lies some five miles SE of the Gulf of La Spezia and two miles east of the shallow entrance of the Bocca di Magra (Magra River). General overview: Marina di Carrara offers container, general and bulk cargo facilities within a safe harbour inside two breakwaters. The East breakwater is 610m in length and the West breakwater is 1,067m. The harbour is entered from SE between the breakwaters when the pontoons of the Club Nautico will be visible to starboard. Depths at the pontoons range from 3.5 metres at the root to 5.5 metres at the southern end. There are four wharves, with fresh water and bunkers available. There is a major repair yard. The harbour is used for the export of the well known Carrara marble and is connected to the marble quarries by rail. Traffic figures: Approx 3,155,300 t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Max draught 9.30m.
