General Description
Location: Durres is situated approx 120nm E of Bari, Italy, across the Adriatic sea, at the N end of the Bay of Durres, an extensive body of water diving Kala e Turres and Cape Durres. General overview: Durres is the principal port of Albania, formed by two breakwaters which protect ten berths. Access to the port is via a 120m wide buoyed channel with a depth of approx 9.5m. Cargo includes general, bulk, breakbulk, palletised goods and containers. There are regular passenger/cargo ferry services to Bari, Ancona and Trieste. There has recently been substantial redevelopment with new berths still under construction. Traffic figures: Approx 603,000t of cargo and 770,800 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Summer.
