General Description

Location: Songkhla deep-sea port lies immediately outside the entrance to Songkhla Lake in a location known as Outer Khao Daeng. General overview: The port was constructed to facilitate the export of produce, mainly rubber and to accept import cargoes destined for the southern region of Thailand. During the first phase of construction, Songkhla port consists of three berths, one for general cargo and two for containers. Songkhla Port is managed and operated by Chao Phaya Terminal International Co Ltd. There are also oil and gas berths at the petroleum pier. The port area is distributed along the East Bank of Hukou, and the railway terminal is located in the south of the urban area, with a depth of 9.1m. The customs terminal is in the north, with a water depth of 6.1m. There are three "T" breakwaters between them, with the depth of 6.1-9.1 meters at the front. The Songkhla Deep-Sea Port can handle vessels alongside with a maximum draft of gm. at 3 berths with a total length of 510m and simultaneously accommodate 3 ships of 173m in overall length. The port is equipped with modern equipments and staffed with personnel who are fully conversant with inter-modal container traffic systems. The port total area is 90,000 sqm suitable for the working of large ocean-going cargo vessels. The quay is 510m long with a 30m wide apron. The tidal flow within the port limits does not normally exceed 2 knots, and there is a minimum water depth of 9m alongside. Main Cargoes handled: Imports: General cargo, containers, fertilizer, frozen fish, and building materials. Exports: Rubber, rubber gloves, rubberwood, general cargo, containers, latex, and frozen food. Traffic figures: Approx 1,800,000t of cargo and 140,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Dry Cargo: LOA 173m, draught 8.2m, beam 25m, approx 20,000DWT. Tankers: LOA 200m, draught 8.0m, 30,000DWT.
