General Description
Location: Mina Al Ahmadi is situated on the NW shore of the Gulf, 30km S of Al-Kuwayt. General overview: The port caters for tankers, crude/products and gas carriers only. The terminals which include South Pier, New Oil Pier, North Pier, Shuaiba Petroleum Products Pier (see separate entry), Mina Abdulla Sea Island (see separate entry) and the refineries are owned by Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC). The SPM's are owned by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). Marine operations of the above terminals are run by Kuwait Oil Company's harbour master, pilots, tugs and craft are owned and controlled by Kuwait Oil Company. Traffic figures: Approx 40,000,000t of crude and oil products and 1,450 vessels are handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Alongside: LOA 454m, draught 16.9m, 276,000DWT (315,000t displacement part loaded). SBM: LOA unlimited, draught 27.43m, 500,000DWT. Largest vessels handled: "Jahre Viking", ULCC, 564,763DWT, draught 22.6m. "Kapitan Giannis", ULCC, 517,000DWT, draught 25m.
