General Description
Location: The recently opened Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) is situated on Hidd Island, on the NE extremity of Bahrain.
General overview: The new port includes the AMP container terminal Bahrain Gateway and a cruise liner berth and takes the larger vessels unable to enter Mina Salman. As of now, the Khalifa bin Salman Port is one of the major drivers that uplift the Kingdom, operating at around 47 per cent of its capacity. Housed at 110 hectares, it is located on the East of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), at a distance of 13 km.
Some of the core features of the port are highlighted below: Regional transportation hub, Four 61m port-Panamax cranes, with a capacity of 18 stack width,Twelve Rubber Tired Granty Crane, Two Reach Stackers, One Top Loader, 38 Yard Trailers, Two Shuttle Carriers, Total of 896 reefer External PowerPoints.
Eventually, it will take all the traffic from the old port. The container terminal operates with 4 post Panamax cranes, giving the facility a throughput capacity of 1,100,000TEU.
The container terminal occupies 900m of quay wall, with an additional 400m of multipurpose quay which can be dedicated to containers in the future, if required. There is an option to extend up to 4 berths and 12 quay cranes, with an annual throughput capacity of 3,000,000TEU.

LOA 360 meters (Vessel with LOA above 360 meters can be accomodated on a case to case basis subject to approval of terminal management).
Declared depth of water in the channel is 13.6m. 13.2m is the allowable draft for vessels at any time and 14.2m at HW. This being said, vessels of up to 14.5m can still safely transit the channel with special coordination and planning with the Harbour and Marine Manager and subject to tidal conditions, squat estimation taking into account the speed and the cross-section area of the waterway and its effect on the ship.
Max weight of OOG cargo: SWL 65 tons / 100 tons With cargo beam. Opportunity to hire cranes. Max Hire of Crane – 250 ton.
Bahrain Approach Channel. Depth: Minimum depth 13.40 metres at chart datum. Length:30 nautical miles. Width: Minimum width 250 metres. Allowable vessel draft (Channel): 13.1 meters any time - Highwater 14 meters.
There’s no exclusive berth available at KBSP and berth will be allocated basis First Come First serve basis only.

- Consignee/Shipper should obtain necessary approvals from appropriate government entities and share the same with APM Terminals planning team, 72 hours prior to vessel’s arrival or gate-in of export cargo.
IMCO Class 1: Explosives (All) | Class 5: Oxidizers – Only 5.2 | Class 6: Poisonous substances – only Class 6.1 and 6.2 | Class 7: Radioactive material (All)
- 100% surcharge shall apply for discharging/loading of above IMO classified cargo. Storage charges would be BHD 88/per day/per container, without any free days being applicable (sections 4.1.6 & 4.5.5 of the Bahrain Ports Tariff).
Agents should submit MSDS and Cargo Manifest of all hazardous containers/cargo (Import, Export & Transhipment) to APM Terminals planning team at least 72 hours prior to vessel’s arrival.
