General Description
Location: Kaohsiung is the principal port of Taiwan. It is situated on the SW coast of Taiwan.
General overview: The port has a large number of berths with facilities for all types of vessels. There are 115 wharves with a total length of 25.8km also 22 sets of buoys, located within the port that can berth vessels of up to 300,000t. The port can handle a total of 155 vessels at one time. Affiliated harbours to Kaohsiung are Makong, Budai, Yun-An LNG Harbour and An-Ping.
The main containerized cargo imported in the Port of Kaohsiung consists of base metals and metal products, while the main exported containerized cargo was plastics, rubber, and related products.
Other important containerized imports arriving at the Port of Kaohsiung include vegetable products; chemical products; pulp, paper, and printed matter; mineral products; prepared foods, beverages (including alcohol), and tobacco; and wood, bamboo, and rattan products. The other important containerized exports leaving the Port of Kaohsiung include base metals and metal products; chemical products; machinery and electric power equipment; and textiles.
The Port of Kaohsiung is home to 121 wharves with a total length of 27,800 m. There are 66 warehouses and sheds in the Port of Kaohsiung with total capacity for 957,700 tons of cargo. 7 open storage yards have a total capacity of 35,322 t or 118,300 TEUs.
In the Port of Kaohsiung, 27 berths totaling 5,373 m handle general merchandise and include over 117,000 sq. m of warehouse space and over 15,000 sq. m of outdoor yard. Of the 27 berths, 24 have alongside depth of 10.5 m. One berth is 13 m deep, one is 14 m deep, and one is 6.5 m deep. The Port of Kaohsiung's general merchandise berths range from 151 to 375 m in length, with an average length of 222 m. Three berths are 151 mlong, nine berths are from 196 to 205 m long, two berths are 214 and 215 m long, one berth is 298 m long, and three berths are over 300 m long.
The Port of Kaohsiung contains 25 special use berths that are a total of 5,400 m long and have almost 32,000 sq. m of warehouse space and almost 400,000 sq. m of open storage yards. Some of these special use wharves in the Port of Kaohsiung handle oil tankers and coal carriers as well as port vessels. With alongside depths from five to 16 m, depths average 10.5 m, and berths range from 118 to 384 m long, averaging 215 m in length.
Three of the Port of Kaohsiung's 25 special use berths are 118 m long with alongside depth of 7 m. Two berths are 139 m long with alongside depth of 9 m. Five berths are between 150 and 200 m long with alongside depths ranging from 4.5 to 11.8 m. Seven special use berths in the Port of Kaohsiung are between 200 and 250 meters long, most with alongside depth of 10.5 or 11.5 m. Five berths are between 250 and 300 m, and alongside depths range from 6.5 to 16.5 m (only one berth with less than 10.5 m depth).
Twenty-three berths in the Port of Kaohsiung with a total length of 6,897 meters serve containerized cargo. The Port of Kaohsiung's container wharves also have more than 710,000 sq. m of yards. Port of Kaohsiung container berth lengths range from 120 to 440 m, and alongside depths range from 10.5 to 15 m.
Twelve of the Port of Kaohsiung container berths are 320 m long with alongside depth of 14 m. Two berths are less than 200 m with alongside depths of 14 and 10.5 m Five container berths are from 230 to 277 m long with alongside depths of 10.5, 12, and 14.5 m. One container berth is 340 m long with alongside depth of 14 m, and two are 355 m long with alongside depth of 15 meters. The Port of Kaohsiung's largest container berth is 440 m long with alongside depth of 14.5 m.
The Port of Kaohsiung has 11 dry bulk berths with a total length of 2,350 m, all of which have alongside depth of 10.5 m, and more than 3,400 sq. m of warehouse space. Two of the Port of Kaohsiung's dry bulk wharves (at 184 and 306 m long) handle dangerous cargo and bulk. Eight of the 11 wharves are 200 m long, and one is 260 m long.
The Port of Kaohsiung has two cement berths with silos. Each of them is 200 m long with alongside depth of 10.5 m. The Port of Kaohsiung also has two grain berths, each of which is 200 m long with alongside depth of 14 m.

If vessel holds valid IMDG Cert eligible for carrying these grades of cargo and necessary declaration is made in advance, port authority may accept the operation (loading/discharge/transit).
Shipper/Receiver should also apply necessary permits from concerned parties before ship's arrival. DG cargos are strictly prohibited to stow at yard in ports.
Normally the operation will be carried out at container terminals, but it's all subject to berth availability or shipper/receiver's request.
Vessel should take comprehensive safety measures on board during whole operation.
