Its strategic location offers natural protection, with land shielding it to the north and east, and coral reefs providing additional safeguarding to the south and southwest. Access to the port is facilitated through a 1.8-kilometer-long approach channel, which maintains a minimum depth of 14.0 meters. With 12 berths available, the Yanbu Commercial Port has the capacity to handle over 13.5 million metric tons of cargo annually. It features a dedicated terminal accommodating up to 1,500 passengers and a terminal specifically designed for general cargo operations. The port is interconnected with a modern road network, enabling seamless transportation connections to the regions of Makkah, Madina, and Qassim. As a result, it serves as a primary gateway for both inbound and outbound passengers and cargo. In addition to its local significance, the port also serves vessels bound for King Fahd Industrial Port (Yanbu) in the south. It is important to note that there are no safe anchorage options outside the port, and reduced visibility caused by atmospheric dust is a common occurrence in the area. Imports passing through the port include general cargo, containers, bulk and bagged fertilizers, bulk feed, bulk white cement, chemical solids, rutile, petroleum, coal, and various other commodities. The port serves as a crucial entry point for these goods, supporting local industries and meeting the demand of the surrounding regions. On the export side, the Yanbu Commercial Port handles bulk cement, clinker, zinc concentrates, petrochemicals, used oil, and other types of cargo. These exports contribute to the country's economic development and global trade relations, showcasing the port's significance as a vital link in the supply chain.
