General Description
Location: Al Basra Oil Terminal (ABOT) is a sea island tanker terminal, located 50km SE of Al Faw Port.
General overview: Al-Basra Oil Terminal consists of a steel island structure with 4 berths that can accommodate 4 tankers simultaneously on two platforms, from 35,000-350,000DWT.
However, it is reported that although all berths are operational, only 2 vessels can load at a time due to the maximum output being around 80-85,000bbls/hr.
Terminals / Berths: The port has two platforms (A and B). The each have 2 berths.
- Platform A: (Berth 1+2) For vessels around 350,000 DWT
- Platform B (Berth 3) For vessels of 90,000 - 350,000 DWT
- Platform B: (Berth 4) For vessels around 350,000 DWT
The 3 SPM's can accommodate VLCC tankers.
The Terminal is of great importance to the Iraqi economy, with exports near 80% of the GDP.
Load line zone: Tropical.
Max size: LOA 370m, no beam restriction, max draught 21.0m, 350,000DWT.
