~UNDER CONSTRUCTION~ Location: The port will be situated at the mouth of Shatt Al Arab river. General Overview: The construction of the port commenced in 2010, with 5 docks already built. Once completed, the port will be considered the biggest port in the Middle East, being a major provider in Iraqi economy. The port will involve 100 berths and will be able to handle 22 million tons of dry bulk cargo and 36 million tons of container cargo. Iraq considers the project of vital importance to expand maritime operations worldwide.
