General Description
Location: Portimao is situated on the S coast of Portugal, 12km E of Lagos.
General overview: Portimao is a port of call for cruise vessels and is also used for the export of canned fish, dried fruit and wood strip. The commercial Port of Portimão offers 330m quay length, a Ro-Ro quay, a 22.000 m2 yard and is equipped with 2 cranes. It is able to receive vessels up to 215 m LOA and 8 m of draft, with capacity up to 2.000 passengers and 50.000 GT. The Portimão Cruise Terminal offers a 430m quay, able to receive cruise vessels up to 230m l.o.a., and a maximum draft of 8m.
Portimão is especially endowed for cruise vessels, despite being also able to handle general cargo, with some restrictions as far as land access concerns, due to its location inside the city plus the limitations to clean cargoes, compatible with the cruises operation.
Traffic figures: Approx 40 vessels and 40,000 passengers are handled annually.
Load line zone: Summer.
Max size: LOA 215 m, draught 8.0m HW. Vessels drawing up to 7.6 m can cross the bar at the entrance to the harbour at any state of the tide.
