Location: The Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal was inaugurated in 1986 in São Luís, Maranhão.
General overview: Ponta da Madeira is a port adjacent to the port of Itaqui. It is consider a private port, operated by Vale (mining company). The port can accommodate up to 5 vessels simultaneously. It consists of 5 berths, each one having a shiploader. The ore is transported by a rail network.

- Pier No.1 (Length 320m // Max. DWT 420,000 // Air Draft 22.4m // Shiploader = 16,000 t/h)
- Pier No.2 (Length 280m // Max. DWT 155,000 // Air Draft 18m // Shiploader = 8,000 t/h // Shiploader (Copper only) = 1320 t/h (air draft = 11m))
- Pier No.3 (Length 571m // Max. DWT 200,000 // Air Draft 22.4m // Shiploader = 8,000 t/h) or 2 vessels of 125,000 DWT(South) and 75,000DWT (North))
Terminals 3 and 4 are specialized for import and export of iron ore.

- Terminal 4 = (Draft 25m // LOA 365m // 400,000DWT) Conveyor belt link to a storage yard.
