General Description
Location: Lavrion (or Laurium) is located on the southeast coast of Attica and serves ferry routes from Athens to the Cyclades and the islands of the Northeast Aegean.
General overview: The port is protected from E winds by the Island of Makronisos but is not considered safe in S winds. t is a modern port serving passenger ferries, freight ferries, yachts, sailing boats, fishing boats and cruise ships. It is the principal port for the export of ores mined in the locality; chemicals and textiles are also exported. Imports include cereals, fruit and general merchandise. The passenger terminals are located on the east side of the port. The pier is 250 meters long and includes 5 ramps for passenger ferries. The ferries departing from the port of Lavrion serve the islands of the Cyclades, mainly Kea and Kythnos, as well as ports in the northeast Aegean Sea. No cranes are avaliable at the port.
Traffic figures: The port serves 180,000 passengers and approx. 42,400t of cargo are handled annually.
