Location: Altamira is situated on the Gulf of Mexico, approx 12nm N of Tampico. General overview: This port services an important area of economic and industrial activity in the country which includes the states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila and San Luis Potosi, amongst others. It is linked to this zone by rail and highways. Depth in the port is 12.5m and this is maintained by continuous dredging. The port handles liquid and dry bulk, petrochemicals, LNG, container and general cargo. The port is under consideration for extensive development. Traffic figures: Approx 1,500 vessels, 12,182,000t of cargo and 397,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Channel: LOA 300m, draught 12.2m, there is no beam restriction.
