General Description
Location: The Port of Sakaide is situated on the coast of the Inland Sea in Kagawa Prefecture.
General overview: The Port of Sakaide is a multi-purpose port with both public and private wharves that handle a wide range of cargoes, including timber, grain, coal, breakbulk, and oil. The port is an open port with the exception of the Mitsubishi Berths "A", "B", and "C" and the Cosmo Oil Berths No. 1 and 2. There are several dry-docks in the port, including those operated by Kawasaki Dockyard.
The port features several oil refineries and depots, with six berths located on the side of the harbor basin. Berth 2 has a water depth of 12.4 meters and is used for handling 30,000-ton crude oil. The other berths are product oil berths. On the outside of the peninsula, there is a trestle with a water depth of 19.6 meters that can accommodate 150,000 DWT ships.
The Mitsubishi wharf, located on the south side of the harbor basin, has nine berths. Four berths in the outer section are 12-13 meters deep and are used for unloading coal, coke, importing grain, and exporting chemical fertilizer. There are two shore cranes at each wharf.
The Lintian wharf, located on the east side of the northwest jetty, has four berths. Berth A in the outer section has a depth of 12 meters and a length of 240 meters, and can accommodate 30000 DWT ships. The other berths can accommodate 1000-5000 DWT ships.
The Quannong wharf, located on the west side of the jetty, is 300 meters long and 12 meters deep, and can accommodate 50000 cubic meters of natural gas ships. The central wharf, located to the west of the log yard, has three berths with water depths of 6, 8, and 10 meters at the front and can accommodate ships of 2000, 50, and 10000 tons respectively.
Finally, the Banchu shipyard is located in the northwest of the central wharf and southeast of the peninsula, and it is also the bridgehead of the Shikoku Honshu railway bridge.
