Location: Incheon is situated at the mouth of the River Han with wet dock facilities to overcome the extremely high tidal range in the area. General overview: The port consists of outer harbours and a tidal basin (Inner Harbour); the outer harbours consist of the South Harbour and North Harbour. Also there is the New Port built in 2020. Inner Port is located inside the Lock Gate, the Inner Port was the first Korean container pier established in 1974. It has a total of 46 berths that vessels can use simultaneously. Cars, grains, general cargo are handled here. The South Port has a pier with three container berths for 4,000 TEU-level container ships and four general berths. The North Port is a comprehensive port where lumber, steel, subsidiary feed materials and other materials are handled at seventeen berths. It consists of 18 berths which can accomodate vessels up to 100,000 DWT. Incheon New Port offers top-notch port infrastructure, including a container pier with six berths available for 12,000 TEU-level ships. There are also a number of anchorage and dolphin berths. The North Harbour will handle most of the dangerous and polluting cargoes when the basin is completed. The Inner harbour is a wet basin capable of accepting vessels up to 50,000DWT. The port handles passengers, general cargo, petroleum products, LNG and containers. The Yonghung Power Station is located on the SW side of Yonghung Island, on the S side of the Incheon approach. Incheon International Ferry Terminal has two terminals where nine shipping companies provide services carrying passengers and cargo to 10 major cities in the Northern part of China. Incheon has ferry connections with Qingdao, Weihai, Tainjin, Lianyungang, Qinhuangdao, Yingkou, Dandong, Shidao, Yantai and Dalian. Traffic figures: Approx 21,000 vessels, 149,000,000t of cargo and 1,860,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: North Port: Tankers, draught 15.0m, 100,000DWT. Yonghung Power Station: Dry bulk carriers, 150,000DWT. Inner Harbour: Large lock - Length of 280-320m depending on which sea gate is used, effective width of 33.5m, approx 50,000DWT. Breakbulk: 50,000 d.w.t., depth 12.5 m. (tidal). Containers: 10,000 TEU, depth 14.0 m. (tidal). Passengers: 20,000 g.t. Ro-Ro: 50,000 d.w.t., depth 12.5 m. (tidal). Bulk: 150,000 d.w.t., depth 24.5 m. (tidal). Tankers: 330,000 d.w.t., draft 13.3 m. Gas: 127,000 d.w.t., depth 16.2 m. (tidal).
