General Description
Location: Longkou port is situated on the S side of Bohai Sea, on the NW tip of Shandong Peninsula, 89nm W of Yantai. General overview: Jimu Island in the NW and a sand belt in the N form a natural barrier against the strong N and W winds, thus making it a natural safe port for vessels. There are two districts within the port, Haixing to the SE and Halong in the NW. There are over 6,200m of quay, with 27 berths for vessels up to 50,000DWT. Imports are fertilisers, steel, timber, refined oil, and other general cargoes. Exports include coal, cement, salt, maize, feeding materials, building materials and mineral products. There are also facilities available in the port for handling containers. Traffic figures: Approx 30,400,000t of cargo, 119,600TEU and 1,056 vessels are handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA 225m, draught 10.3m, 64,388DWT.
