General Description
Location: Guaiba Island Terminal, also known as Sepetiba Terminal, is located at the SE end of Guaiba Island, approx 50nm W of Rio de Janeiro.
General overview: The island lies to the N of the dredged channel leading into Sepetiba Bay. The ore exporting facility is privately owned and operated by Mineracoes Brasileiras Reunidas S/A and is connected to the mainland by a railroad trestle 1,705m in length.
Main facility is 700,000 sq.m. with annual capacity 33 million tons with a deep-water pier located about 400 m. south of the island. A mooring dolphin at the west end of the pier provides an overall mooring length of 470 m. alongside the South Berth.

-North Pier: max. size: 180,000DWT; beam: 43.0m; depth: 19.00m; draft: 18.00; remarks: loading of iron ore.
-South Pier: max. size: 350,000DWT; LOA: unlimited; beam: 60.0m; depth: 24.00m; draft: 22.00; remarks: loading of iron ore.
Cargo Handling Facilities: One shiploader available for both berths, loading rate 6,500 – 10,500 tonnes/hr. Average loading rate 7,000 tonnes/hr. Boom length 143 m. 2 trucks, capacity 8,000 t.p.h.
Traffic figures: Approx 33,000,000t of iron ore handled annually.
Load line zone: Tropical.
Max size: Draught 20.4m + tide (up to 1.2m); LOA 340m; beam 57m; max airdraught 19.0m, 310,000DWT. The port is not suitable for vessels under 25,000DWT.
Largest vessel handled: "Peene Ore", 322,398DWT, ore carrier, loaded 297,000t of iron ore, LOA 332m, sailing draught 21.6m.
