General Description
Location: The Port of Hakodate port is located on the southern tip of Hokkaido Island facing the Tsugaru Strait.
General overview: The Port of Hakodate is a gateway to the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. Hakodate is operated by the Hakodate Port Authority and its considered an multi-purpose international port. It consists of the following areas:
- Nishi Pier
- Toyokawa Pier
- Wakamatsu Pier
- Chuo Pier
- Bandai Pier
- Kita Pier
- Minato-cho Pier
The port mostly handles bulk cargoes, fisheries, wheat, timber, fish oil, containers, etc. There is also a passenger terminal.
