General Description
Location: St George's is located at the SW end of Grenada, the most southerly of the Windward Islands in the E Caribbean. General overview: St George's harbour is much favoured by cruise vessels. The new cruise pier has reduced the number of cruise ships having to use the outer harbour anchorage. The inner harbour consists of 2 basins which have a common entrance, one to the Carenage commercial harbour and the other for small pleasure craft. The allocation of berths is at the discretion of the Port Authority. Berths handle agricultural exports including bananas and cocoa and imports of general cargo, food and construction materials. Repair facilities at St George's cater mainly for yachts. There are two tanker berths close N of the town. Traffic figures: Approx 1,600 vessels, 500,000t of cargo, 18,000TEU and 274,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Melville Street Cruise Terminal: Voyager Class Cruise ships, LOA 311m, draught 8.8m. Carenage: Single screw vessels up to 182m LOA. Vessels in excess of 182m may berth after special consideration.
