General Description
Location: The port of Mitylene (Mytilini) is situated on SE coast of Lesvos Island in the eastern Aegean.
General overview: The port consists of an outer and an inner harbour, sheltered by a 396m length breakwater. Bulk and general cargoes are handled and there are tanker berths to the S. The principal exports are olive oil, soap, tobacco, balsams, sulphur, figs and valonia. Skala Pamfilon tanker berth lies 6km to the N of Mitylene.
From Mytilene/ Lesvos ferry port, the ferry companies Blue Star Ferries and Hellenic Seaways offer year-round routes to Chios and Piraeus/ Athens. Hellenic Seaways also completes regular Mytilene/ Lesvos ferry routes to a great variety of destinations in the North Aegean, including the ports of Agios Kirikos/ Ikaria, Fourni, Karlovassi/ Samos, Limnos and Vathi/ Samos. The port mainly ferries to the nearby islands of Lemnos and Chios and Ayvalık and at times Dikili in Turkey. The port also serves the mainland cities of Piraeus, Athens and Thessaloniki. There is a SETUR marina in the southern corner of the outer harbour, just inside the western end of the detached breakwater.
Traffic figures: Approx 60 vessels visit the port annually.
