Location: Butzfleth is situated at the mouth of the River Elbe, on the west bank on Butzflether Sand. General overview: The port has numerous facilities for the import/export of bulk ores and chemicals. There are 6 berths in total, 1 located at the Northwest Quay, 2 at the Northpier and 3 at the Dow-Chemical Terminal. The main cargoes handled include bauxite, aluminium oxide, petcoke, ethylene, propylene and carbon tetrachloride. The northern part of the pier in the port Stade Bützfleth serves for loading and unloading bauxite and aluminium-oxide and wet aluminum hydroxide. A large part of the port handling activities in the southern port area consists of the import and export of liquid and gaseous chemical elements. Stade offers handling of bulk and general cargo on paved and flood-proof handling and storage areas. There is a maximum draught of 14 m available to ships here. Traffic figures: Approx 5,000,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Draught: 15.0m, 80,000DWT. The largest vessel called at the port: LOA: 230 m, draught: 13.3 m, deadweight: 82,654 t. The outer berth can accept ships with a maximum draught of 210 meters, a draught of 15 meters and a load of 100000 tons; The inner berth can accommodate ships with a length of 100 meters and a draft of 6.9 meters; Oil tanker berth: oil tanker berth: the inner berth can accommodate ships with a length of 145 meters, a width of 18.75 meters and a draft of 8 meters; The outer berth can accommodate ships of 270 meters long, unlimited width and 14.0 meters draft. BULK FACILITIES: Aluminium Oxid Stade GmbH (AOS): This bauxite/oxide plant, situated on the Westbank of the River Elbe, can be reached by vessels with max. draft of 46 ft. 06 in. (FW). The oxide produced at this plant, apart from being exported, is used for the mills of VAW Elbewerk GmbH, Stade-Butzfleth and of Hamburger Aluminium Werk GmbH, Hamburg Finkenwerder. TANKER FACILITIES: Dow Deutschland Inc: This operation,situated close to the AOS plant, offers two berths for gas and chemical tankers. The water depth at the outside quay is 15 m. and at the inside quay 9 m., both at MLW.
