Location: Aabenraa is situated on the E coast of Jylland (Jutland) at the head of Aabenraa Fjord, approx 25nm from Haderslev. General overview: The port is ice free, well sheltered with three basins and the deepest commercial port in the W part of the Baltic. Aabenraa is centrally positioned near the large harbours of N Europe and only 25km from the Danish/German frontier. One of Denmark's bigger public ports. The port has about 2.2km of quay area, together with two tanker piers and a Ro-Ro terminal, the water depth varying from 4.0 to 11.0m. There are good rail and motorway links with two airports within easy reach of the town. Imports: Broken stone, foodstuffs, timber, cement, gypsum, stone, molasses, chemicals, fuel oils, gas oils and vegetable oils. Exports: Timber, grain, fuel oils and gas oils. Traffic figures: Approx 580 vessels call and 2,066,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Cargo ships: LOA 250m, draught 10.75m, no beam restrictions. Tankers: LOA 210m, no beam restrictions, draught 10.5m, 60,000DWT. Largest vessel handled: "Standard Ardour", 68,490DWT, bulker, draught 10.4m.
