General Description
Location: Prescott is situated on the N shore of the St Lawrence River between Lake Ontario and Montreal.
General overview: Prescott is a major Ontario grain port under the control of Ports Canada (Federal Government). It is equipped with a grain elevator of 154,020t storage capacity for the distribution and storage of Western wheat and feed grains, combined with two berths for loading and unloading, length 283m and 396m respectively.
There is also other berthage up to 442m in length and private berthage owned by the Canadian Salt Co. Depth alongside at all berths is 9.0m. Traffic figures: Approximately 30 vessels and 436,800 cargos handled annually.
Principal Commodities: Grain, salt, calcium chloride, fertiliser, coal, potash, lumber, sulphur, chemicals, petroleum and iron ore.
