General Description
Location: The port of Setubal is situated in the large estuary of the River Sado, on the Portuguese Atlantic coast, 40km S of Lisbon.
General overview: A large industrial centre equipped to handle all types of cargoes. Portugal's main Ro-Ro port, handling containerised, break bulk and bulk cargoes, also extensive shipbuilding and repair facilities. There is an important fishing industry based in the port. A large, deep and safe anchorage is available, sheltered from the prevailing N winds by the Arrabida mountains.
YILPORT Setúbal operates the multipurpose terminal including the handling of containerized, ro-ro, bulk, and breakbulk cargoes. The terminal provides excellent and easy access to road and railway networks. As part of YILPORT’s one-stop-shop concept, Setúbal terminals offer all sorts of terminal services to its customers. YILPORT Setúbal has two terminals in service. The container terminal is operating under the YILPORT Setúbal brand. With its 725 meters of berth, the terminal is available for multiple vessel calls. The draft at the berth is 15 meters deep, and the canal draft is 12 meters deep.
The Port of Setubal’s Multi-use Terminal Zone 1 is operated by TERSADO and handles unitized, roll-on/roll-off, solid bulk, and containers. With an 864-meter long wharf and a roll-on/roll-off gangway 30 meters wide, the terminal offers berthing positions of 170 meters that offer alongside depth of 9.5 meters and berthing positions of 694 meters with alongside depth of 10.5 meters. The multi-use terminal contains 2.1 thousand square meters of covered storage.
The Port of Setubal’s Multi-use Terminal Zone 2 is operated by SADOPORT and handles unitized and roll-on/roll-off cargoes and containers. The wharf is 725 meters long with alongside depth of 15 meters. The terminal is equipped with a 45-ton capacity gantry crane and a post-Panamax gantry crane with 40 tons capacity. This terminal has 1.6 thousand square meters of covered storage.
The AutoEuropa Terminal and Roll-on/Roll-off Terminal in the Port of Setubal have a 365-meter long wharf with a roll-on/roll-off gangway and with alongside depth of 12 meters. The terminal contains open paved storage of 150 thousand square meters, 60 thousand square meters of which is dedicated to the AutoEuropa Terminal.
The Port of Setubal’s Terminal Portuario is operated by SAPEC and is dedicated to handling solid and liquid bulk cargoes. The wharf can accommodate ships to 200 meters long with 10.5 meters of draft. The terminal includes storage of about 25 thousand square meters. The Liquid Bulk Terminal, also operated by SAPEC, has three berthing stations that can accommodate ships to 190 meters long with 9.5 meters draft.
The Port of Setubal also contains several terminals for private use. The Terminal SECIL is used primarily by companies that move cement, clinker, and coal. Located at the West Wharf, its berths can accommodate ships to 150 meters with 10 meters draft and ships to 170 meters with 9 meters draft. It also has a 98-meter wharf that accommodates vessels to 125 meters long with 7.1 meters draft. The terminal contains about 61 thousand square meters of paved area.
The Terminal da Uralada in the Port of Setubal handles liquid bulk cargoes (primarily alimentary oils and molasses) and can accommodate ships to 100 meters with 5.5 meters draft. The Terminal de Praias do Sado handles solid and liquid bulk cargoes at a wharf of 125 meters with alongside depth of 9.5 meters. The Terminal da Alstom Portugal specializes in unitized general cargoes and can accommodate ships to 110 meters and 6 meters draft.
The Port of Setubal’s Terminal Tanquisado/Eco-Oil handles combustible liquid bulk cargoes. It serves ships carrying fuels of up to 200 meters long and 9.5 meters draft. The Solid Bulk Terminal of Mitrena serves several companies that move solid bulk cargoes at 152-meter wharf that can accommodate ships to 200 meters long with 10 meters draft. The terminal includes 160 thousand square meters of storage area. The Teporset Terminal specializes in clinker and cement. It has a 165-meter long wharf that can accommodate vessels to 152 meters with 9.3 meters draft. It also has about 70 thousand square meters of paved area.
