General Description
Location: Rosyth is located on the N bank of the Firth of Forth on the E coast of Scotland. General overview: Rosyth, a former Royal Navy Base, is owned by Babcock Facilities Management Ltd and is in part managed by Forth Ports PLC on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. It is used primarily as a berth for cruise liners and continental ferry services but commercial facilities are being developed. Commercial shipping must make special arrangements well in advance with the Port Manager. Cargoes handled in the port include forest products and chemicals. Traffic figures: Approx 200,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Maximum size of vessel handled: For vessels using the tidal harbour there is no restriction on length and beam, but maximum permitted draught is 7.8m. For vessels entering Main basin through the direct entrance the maximum dimensions are LOA 195m and 32m beam; for the Entrance Lock, the maximum dimensions are LOA 185m and 22.8m beam.
