General Description
Location: Reggio Calabria port is situated on the eastern side of the Messina Strait.
General overview: The harbour consists of an artificial basin, protected from the W by Molo di Ponente, which extends nearly 0.5nm N from the coast close N of the mouth of Torrente Annunziata. The main imports are coal, wheat, flour and marble with the main exports being timber, citrus and wood products. As a ferry port, it handles passenger and vehicle Ro-Ro services across the Messina Strait to Messina, northeastern Sicily. It also handles fishing vessels and leisure craft. The main ferry connects Reggio and its surroundings to Messina, Catania, Aeolian Islands, Taormina and Malta. There is only one suitable berthing place for yachts, a small basin at the NE corner of the large commercial harbor: the Yacht Harbour "marina".
