General Description
Location: The large commercial port of Porto Torres is situated on the N coast of the island of Sardinia, 15 miles WSW of Castelsardo and 10 miles SE of the small harbour of Stintino.
General overview: The port is protected by two breakwaters, Molo di Levante and Molo di Ponente, and consists of two areas; Porto Commerciale, a complex of basins lying to the E of Molo di Ponente, and Porto Industriale, a much larger area protected by Diga Foranea, to the W of Molo di Ponente. The port can accommodate the following vessels in the port: bulk liquids and solids, Ro-Ro and passenger ferries, fishing boats and coasters. The industrial harbour is unsuitable for yachts, but the smaller, commercial harbour on the E, where the ferries berth, contains two small basins at its SE end which have been converted into marinas. Services include bunkering and watering, but the repair facilities and a slipway, are only suitable for smaller vessels.
The fastest way to get to Porto Torres is by sea from the mainland is from the following ports: Genoa and Civitavecchia. Also, there are ferry connections from Spain, France and Corsica.
At the N basin offers around 2215 berths for yachts up to 30 metres and maximum draft of 3 metres. Berths are stern or bows-to on five pontoons. Water and electricity at all berths.
At the S basin offers around 150 berths for yachts up to 35 metres and a maximum draft of 4.0 metres. Berths are stern or bows-to on two long pontoons. Water and electricity at all berths.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,500 vessels, 2,009,000t of cargo and 476,000 passengers handled annually.
Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships 100m or less in length, Winter Dec 16 to Mar 15, Summer Mar 16 to Dec 15.
