General Description
Location: Milford Haven is situated between Saint Ann's Head and Sheep Island, on SW Wales coast. General overview: Milford Haven is the largest port in Wales and the sixth largest in the United Kingdom. The Haven is a natural deep water harbour, offering extensive shelter in bad weather. The port area mainly handles tanker traffic, large ferries and cruise liners, along with a large amount of recreational craft and fishing boats. There are deep water quays, a ferry terminal at Pembroke and also an enclosed dock at Milford Docks. There are two major LNG terminals, South Hook and Murco (which used to operate the facility in partnership Total). Other terminals include Dragon LPG, Valero (which acquired the terminal from Chevron in 2011) and Semlogistics. There are plans to sell the Murco Terminal. Traffic figures: Over 48,800,000t of cargo and 325,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 365m, Draught 19.0m, 300,000DWT. Largest vessel handled: "Sea Song", 357,023DWT, VLCC, 11.8m draught (partly laden). Largest LNG vessel: "Mozah", Q-Max LNG vessel, LOA 345m, beam 54m, 266,000m³.
