General Description
The Port of Payra is a seaport located at Kalapara in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 2013.
The Port was officially inaugurated in August 2016. It is located on the Ramnabad channel near the Bay of Bengal.
To applance the project, the government has occupied a Short, Mid & Long term Plan to advance the projected state-of-the-art sea port. In place of a short term plan, by 2018 operations of the port with at least 2.5 km terminal is set to active. Moreover, by the end of 2021, procedures of the port activities and discharging cargos from mother ships at outer port and transported to the hinterlands through river routes. As a midterm plan, by 2023 the port will be completely fucntioning with a minimum 10 km container and majority terminals with all other supplementary facilities. Finally, as a long term plan, the management has decided to establish EEZ, Airport, Port City, Dockyard and Shipyard. Eco-tourism and other pertinent amenities and infrstructure addresing the port.
Facilities:
Payra Sea Port will have following facilities:
-Jetty area has a depth of water 12-25 m where deep draught and bigger size vessel can be accomodated.
-11 km long jetty/terminal facilities can be developed.
-4 km wide channel.
-Plenty of hinterland to develop a seaport with modern infrastructure.
-Planned Navy base and Coast Guard close to proposed port area will provide necessary safety and security.
-Protected from natural disaster.
-Located in regional transshipment port.
-Can be used as a regional transshipment port.
-Constraint free large channel avaliable for anchorage and loading/unloading facilities on both sides for ships.
-In compare with Chittagong Port, the Landing charge, Shipping charge and River dues are lower in Payra port.
-The port will be open 24 hours.
-Handling and parking facilities of motor vehicles will be avaliable.
-15.00 Meter draft Vessel can be accomodated.
-75000 container wll be handled in a year and this capacity is nearly 5 times more than existing sea port.
-Payra sea port will generate massive employment boost, export and import and increase the capacity of the country in handling going cargos.
-It will create Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar economic corridor (DCIM)
